Last year C-Space invited Chinese artist Cang Xin and Dutch based Israeli artist Sagi Groner to make a joint manifestation of a subject matter which has been an ongoing inspiration for them both - the ancient traditions of Shamanism.
In Shamanism, art is used as a personal method to exercise the shadow content of the psyche and introduce it to the conscious mind. In this sense art is very literally viewed as psychic therapy, and is a path to levels of self contemplation and inner awareness.
As a base for their joint exploration and research the artists travelled together to north China and Inner-Mongolia to meet with Shamans, witness their rituals and to learn about their occult beliefs and techniques of trance.
For the present exhibition each of the artists made an installation consisting of sculpture works expressing their notion of inner worlds and the multiple dimensions of the psyche. Their works combine on one hand a personal ruminating of their own psyche, and on the other hand presenting a universal reflection on the human spirit.
C-SPACE is dedicated to presenting high-quality exhibitions. By introducing both recognized and emerging artists from Europe to China as well as bringing together Western artists with contemporary Chinese artists unique opportunities are created to enter in a lively cross-cultural dialogue.
