Introduction of Songzhuang Artists Group
There is a piece of fertile land in the north of Tongzhou district of Beijing, which is surrounded by Wenyu River and Chaobai River. The place is Songzhuang town. It is only 13 kilometers away from the CBD of Beijing, and 2 kilometers west to the Beijing International Airport. Songzhuang town is also the important area of culture creation industry and airport-oriented economy development. Abundant in culture background and folk customer, Songzhuang town has been the biggest contemporary art camp of China or even the world—Songzhuang artists group.
In 1994, celebrated artists, such as Fang Lijun, Liu Wei, Wang Yin, Yue Minjun, and critic Li Xianting, came to Songzhuang as the earliest pioneers. Under the circumstance of reforming and opening policy, artists here found a wide stage for them to create more excellent artworks. Government and people of Songzhuang took up a friendly attitude to all the artists coming here. Now there has been more than 700 artists who live and work here pursuing their dreams in Songzhuang town, which is centralized around Xiaopu village scattering in 9 villages of Daxing, Xindian , Lamazhuang, Renzhuang, Baimiao, Beisi, Tuanli, Liuhe and Xiaoyang. You can see various unique artists living area, art camp and original sight studios of artists.
If you come to Songzhuang, sculptors, conception artists, new media artists, photographers, independent film producers, free writers can be found here. The main art genres are contemporary painting art, public art, new media art and the synthetic material art. Many artists have won the international prizes and held exhibitions in lots of authoritative art fairs, and even have been collected by a few world famous museums and art galleries.
Now worldwide contemporary artists, critics, art galleries, collectors and auction agents are focusing on Songzhuang. Letting outside world know more about Songzhuang town and artists, the local government adapted the policy of “creating a cultural town”. They set up work panel using and coordinating cultural resources to create a name brand—Songzhuang·China, a developed and harmonious society.
In order to provide artists with better living and working space, expand the external communication, and build a platform of the combination of art resource and market operation, Songzhuang people established Art Promotion Association, Culture Industry Development Service Center and Culture Creation Development Co.,Ltd. They manage to turn Songzhuang into the base camps of world level art creation, transaction, and the base of state culture creation industry.
Annual Songzhuang·China Art Festival is held in October. More and more specialists, scholars and art fans will come here communicating and traveling since they are attracted by so many artists and art architecture buildings, such as International Art Space, Contemporary Art Museum, New Media Art Garden.
