Ten years ago Mr.Zhixian’s lotus photos were first exhibited in Chinese Art Gallery. The works were essentially common red flowers with green leaves, and quite a number of whose were really popular among people. Either the art concept or the creation method was of the realism category.
The present exhibition is the second one. Although identical for the lotus pond, this time he chooses the corner without or even beneath common notice. He has not shot the “especially red” interested by most people, but focused on the withering, dried lotus, even many types of wreckage. In terms of life, he pays more attention to the ending. He goes beyond youth. Instead of singing the more popular fair-sounding song of youth, he directly reaches the end of life and searches for the significance of it. Thereafter, the imagery of his lotus appears so magnificent, deep and calm. In fact, this is an understanding of greater depth to life, so that his lotus bears the ultimate thinking about the significance of existence of all lives. He puts forward with his lotus the eternal proposition “Why we came, and why we go”.
The highest state of art is “The face is the index of the mind”. The works of Mr. Zhang Zhixian has given the best illustration. His works falls into the art category of surrealism, and thus is a breakthrough of photographic art concept.
